What Are The Types of Hair Loss?
Did you know that there are different types of hair loss? For instance, it is completely normal for a person to lose up to a hundred strands of hair on a daily basis. This is because the normal cycle of hair growth strands of hair will fall out in order for the scalp to produce new strands of hair. After a strand of hair falls out it takes about 12 weeks for a new one to come into place.
Unfortunately there are a growing amount of people who lose more hair on a regular basis than they should. This disorder is known as hair loss and most people are not even aware that they are losing this much hair. Most people are completely clueless when it comes to their thinning hair, until they get comments from people around them.
Male or Female Pattern Baldness
Male and female pattern baldness usually occurs as you age, although it can happen early on in life. This is most often a hereditary condition for which there is help, but no cure. This type of hair loss is also known as androgenetic alopecia. Pattern baldness of any kind is caused when a person experiences slower hair growth than their counterparts who do not have this condition.
Permanent Hair Loss
Permanent hair loss is another fairly common type of hair loss, but it’s probably one of the more difficult problems to solve. This is also known as cicatricail alopecia, or scarring alopecia. This occurs when the hair follicles become inflamed and develop scar tissue around them. When this happens, it stops the growth of hair due to the denseness of the scar tissue. Certain skin disorders such as lupus can be the cause of this type of hair loss.
Autoimmune Hair Loss
Alopecia Areata is another type of hair loss which is thought to be an auto immune condition. In other words, it is thought that the immune system attacks the hair or hair follicles and causes the hair to fall out and not regrow. The problem with this condition is that research finds that people who suffer from it are otherwise thought to be fairly healthy.
Common, But Not Addressed Enough
Another very common type of hair loss is one that isn’t addressed nearly enough. It is caused from the styling of hair that can put too much pressure on the scalp. For instance, when you put your hair in a ponytail too often, it puts pressure on the scalp and makes it hard for new healthy hair to grow. If you stop wearing your hair up, you will likely find that you can regrow healthy hair, but you will always have to be careful of this type of hair loss if you are someone who has long hair.
There are many different types of hair loss and if you feel that you are suffering from one of them, there is no better time than now to see your health care provider and try to establish a routine for repairing damage and stopping hair loss if you can.
